Translation Without BordersSeptember 30, 2013 4:47 pm
Over the past two days, we have attended the annual ATC conference, and throughout our time here we came across a fantastic charity: Translators Without Borders. The invaluable translation undertaken by this business has provided he basis for humanity for thousands of people across multiple sectors, including words for Syrian refugees, doctors in Haiti, mothers in India and care workers in Indonesia. In May of this year, Translation Without Borders celebrated 12 million words- an incredible achievement. However, this isn’t enough. There are still 10 million words awaiting translation, for ways representing:
- Critical health knowledge from Wikipedia medical articles
- Knowledge on fixing water pumps throughout Asia
- Information for refugees
Translation is vital and supports those in a time of need;
“Your professionalism… for this piece of work is impressive and the impact it will have on our Arabic speaking audience, which includes those Syrians directly affected by this crisis will be profound”. (Andrew Alspach, UN High Commissioner for Refugees).
After hearing about this life changing work, we couldn’t say no to becoming a bronze level sponsor for the charity, helping them on their journey to the 20 million word challenge. We hope to continue supporting them with helping them to get funds to translators working worldwide for them. There are also many ways that you can help:
- Sponsor TWB at bronze, silver or gold level
- Fund-a-translator in Kenya and beyond
- Create a holiday giving campaign at work
- Match funds donated by employees.
