Celebrations are taking place around the United Kingdom today as the Queen turns 90.

The Queen issued a series of tweets which read “I send my best wishes to those who are celebrating their 90th birthday on this shared occasion, I send my warm congratulations to you.”.  In another tweet, the Queen thanked the senders of “#HappyBirthdayYourMajesty” tweets.

The monarch took part in a walkabout with the Duke of Edinburgh around Windsor today, greeting the crowds that lined the streets to congratulate her.  She was even gifted with a special orange drizzle birthday cake, made by the Great British Bake Off winner, Nadiya Hussain.

Queen Elizabeth also unveiled a plaque marking ‘The Queen’s Walkway’ – a 6km trail that links 63 significant points in Windsor.  It has been created to mark the record broken by the Queen as the longest reigning monarch, by being on the throne for 63 years and 7 months.
