Digital Recruitment Goes GlobalApril 23, 2013 6:19 pm
With many businesses now having budgets, access and scope to go international from the comfort of their UK structure, international recruitment is evolving day by day. Expats and contractors are sent abroad to work on short to long-term projects and local teams are set up to run the long term business strategy. To see how this market has changed we caught up with Keith Potts, CEO of Evenbase, a global digital recruitment group which spans over 55 countries.
“The recruitment marketplace has been developing globally, keeping pace with businesses that operate on an increasingly global scale.
Our recent Hottest Markets report looked at the ebb and flow of talent and opportunities around the world and identified significant skills gaps – both current and on the horizon. These range from large percentages of the workforce in some markets hitting retirement in 2030, to huge skilled labour shortages in developing markets today.
In China for example, 1/3 of the workforce will be retiring within 20 years, whilst in India there is over 1 million government vacancies and its IT industry is struggling to find suitably qualified talent. In Australia it takes 66 days to fill science & engineering jobs, which is twice as long as it takes to fill IT roles. In Canada, there’s a severe shortage of workers for the petroleum industry with as many as 130,000 new hires needed in the next decade if oil and gas prices stay high.
Going forward, taking a global outlook when deciding on your next role or when recruiting new talent for your company will help respond to local market conditions.”

As these international markets become more accessible for businesses to penetrate a strategy that looks at the global landscape is more important than ever. The Evenbase ‘Hottest Markets in 2020’ report looks at the future of digital recruitment. There are some large contenders in there and of course we were happy to see the UK feature as a country that still has one of the largest recruitment markets.
See yourself going global? As a business seek out talent in these key areas for expansion and if you’re an individual keep an eye on jobs emerging in these locations. If you already work abroad then take a look at the best way to be ‘Paid in a Foreign Currency’.
